As a lone eagle soars to the sky and through the clouds, Ty, our beloved son, takes flight to the heavens beyond. Ty was born on July 2, 1962, in Newberg, Oregon, to David and Lavonne Knapp. He married Debi Savey, in 1982, and they had two daughters, Krissy Dee Knapp Ormond, married to Shamario Ormond, and Ashley Dawn Knapp Walker, married to Jessie Walker. Grandchildren are Jalin and Isaiah Ormond ages 8 and 4 and Kayley Walker age 1. Ty loved his grandchildren very much. Ty's second family is Maggie Ohlsen and her daughter, Katie. Maggie took care of Ty during his illness. Ty's brothers: are James (Jim), David Knapp, and his wife Lori, Timothy Daniel Knapp and daughter Kaitlyn Powers, and Todd Darcy Knapp and his wife Tammy. Uncle Wayne Carda and his wife Kitty, cousins Toni Evans, Troy and Duke Carda were family, along with brothers-in-law, John and Troy Savey. In 1987 UPS promoted Ty to Supervisor and he worked 30 plus years for them. He was an exceptional boss and all the personnel at Roseburg UPS thought the world of him. All the employees said that "They didn't work for him, they worked with him." His job was like a home away from home. Throughout his life he enjoyed sports to keep physically fit and spending time with his friends. He loved basketball, tennis, fishing, rifle and bow hunting, camping and golf. Ty's home displayed numerous preserved elk and antelope trophies. He was a proud member of H.O.G., Harley Owners Group. He rode his Harley through 12 states and was a member of The Thousand Mile Club. Ty attended Lincoln School in Ashland, Oregon and graduated from North Bend High School in 1980. He was a State Champion Wrestler in the heavy weight division. His name and picture hangs in the front hall of North Bend High School. Like his father, he was a guitar player and collector of fine instruments. After the diagnosis of stage four sarcoma cancer, Ty was so brave and courageous with no complaining no matter how sick the chemo made him. The doctors, nurses and other personnel at the Cancer Center in Roseburg, were so wonderful to him. He went to O.H.S.U. for surgery to remove a huge cancer on his liver and his heart stopped during surgery on Thursday, May 16, 2013. His mother and daughters; Krissy, Ashley and Katie were there. Special thanks to Bill Weber at the Roseburg UPS for all of his help during this time of sorrow as well as the drivers, office personnel, and managers above him. Services will be held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 12 p.m. There will be a potluck following the service. Bring a dish if you can. Casual attire is fine and everyone is welcome. Contributions can be made in Ty's honor at the Community Cancer Center. Private interment will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Valor.
