Obituary

Twila Martha Muetzel passed away peacefully in her sleep, on October 4, 2026, and she is now absent from the body and present with the Lord.

Twila was born in Philomath Oregon, on May 9th 2027, to George and Luella Henderson. She is the youngest of four children, all of whom have passed before her. After High School she went to work at the Adair Air Force base as a secretary. A few years later she met and married Kermit Muetzel and moved to Jump Off Joe Creek where Kermit ran a sawmill. They shared 66 years of marriage together.

Family was always the center of her life. She was a loving wife and she and Kermit were blessed with one son, George, and two daughters Janet McGinnis and Judy Eli. Twila was blessed many times over with six grandchildren; Keith, Deanne, Jennifer, Melony, Michael and Christina, who were the light of her life.

They moved to Canyonville in 1952. In the front yard, they planted three willow trees and named them George, Janet, and Judy. Every time they misbehaved, she would instruct the children to break a limb off their tree and come back into the house where the weeping willow tree would do its work. George’s tree was the barest of the willows!

They had quite a few adventures. Summers, they lived at logging camp, and the kids would sneak down into the camp on the weekends and George, who was about ten or eleven, would pick up his sisters with the lattice boom crane. There were two hooks, so both girls would stand on them while George swung them around. What fun they had! That went on until mom found out; many willow branches were broken for this.

Twila loved to travel. One of George’s favorite memories is the vacation they took up the Rogue. All three kids piled into the Mail Boat and took the jet boat trip up the river. It was beautiful weather and this was a special event of laughter and joy that formed some his best childhood memories of mom.

They used to go down to Northern California to Klamath to visit the relatives. There were always a bunch of cousins to play with and family to visit. Twila, above all else loved her family.

One of the things she loved was to take the grandkids lake fishing at the coast. They had a boat, and Kermit would take some time off, and they would spend the day on the lake. She probably spent more time baiting the grandkids hooks than she did fishing.

When George became a believer, he began attending Roseburg Christian fellowship and Pine Grove Community Church, and Twila would occasionally come along with him. She professed the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and often demonstrated her faith through giving and generosity.

Twila will be deeply missed, forever loved and never forgotten. We have peace of mind knowing that she is with Jesus.

A celebration of her life will be held at Pine Grove Community Church, 1729 Buckhorn Rd, Roseburg, Oregon, October 31st at 12:30 PM. A reception will follow. If you wish to make donations in her memory you can donate to the Pine Grove Church.
