Thelma L Clifton, age 85, of Canyonville, Oregon, passed away December 25, 2009, at her home peacefully, with family surrounding her. She was born September 22, 1924 in Helix, Oregon to Jesse and Abigail (Terwilliger) Davis. The family moved to Days Creek Oregon in the mid 30's, where Thelma attended school. Thelma met and later married Leonard Clifton, the love of her life, on June 1, 1941 in Days Creek, Oregon. She is survived by their three children; Leonard P. Clifton of Canyonville, Virginia (Ginger) Peyton and her husband Jerry Peyton of Roseburg, Oregon, Peggy Coleman of Canyonville; grandson Cameron Jarvis, his wife Kim and their two children, Cameron Jarvis jr. and Amanda, granddaughter Vicki Sanger and daughter Savannah, all of Medford, grandson Craig Clifton of Toketee and his children Ian and Kate Clifton of Canyonville, granddaughters Kylie Davenport and sister Kasey Coleman of Canyonville; sister-in-law Pat Davis of Canyonville; nieces Donna Sartor of Weed, California, Barbara Curtis of Roseburg, Susan Williams of North Carolina; nephews Ronnie Davis and James Davis of Roseburg, Scotty Clifton of North Carolina; and her many cousins. Thelma has been preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard Clifton, her mother Abigail DeLamater, father Jesse Davis, brother Delbert Davis, sister Elsie Bonney, and twin sister Zelma Hodson. Thelma and Leonard owned and operated Days Creek Weigh Scales for a number of years, also they owned and operated Clifton Log Trucking until Leonard's death in 1985. Thelma also worked outside of the home at the Airport Café where she took great pride in her ability as a cook, particularly her pies. Thelma also immensely enjoyed canning and cooking anything and everything for her family, but two of her family and friends favorites were her blackcap jelly and sweet pickles. A huge part of her life was a great love of the outdoors, particularly hunting, fishing and gardening , also playing and usually winning everything from checkers and cards with her grandchildren and pinochle with family and friends. Among the many things she will be missed for was her love of people; family and friends, her sense of humor and ability to make people laugh. A "Celebration of Life" will be announced and held at a later date. Thelma will be laid to rest at Roseburg Memorial Gardens in Roseburg, Oregon , her twin sis Zelma Hodson's cremains are placed with her. Memorial gifts in honor of Thelma may be made to the American Cancer Society.
