Steven Michael Fisher 71, was suddenly taken from us on Saturday August 10, 2019 at 627am while residing at Rose Haven Nursing Center. He was the husband of Wilma Fisher. They shared 47 married years together on June 30, 1972. They were sealed in the Switzerland Temple while serving in Germany for the U.S. Army.
Born in San Jose, CA, he was the son of Ruth Elaine Vanatta and Richard Ernest Fisher. He graduated from Delmar High School. He started college at Cochise College in Sierra Vista, AZ. Finishing his degree and graduated from University of Maryland. He served 21 years in the U.S. Army as a communication specialist. He fought in the Vietnam War. Serving from 1967 – 1988. Retiring in June of 1988. He worked as a DJ and his children loved to hear him on the radio. Thereafter he moved his family to Las Vegas, NV and took a government job continuing his communication specialty. He helped run the Hoover Dam and would occasionally take his children down into it and share his job responsibilities.
He was a member of the Rod and Gun Club, NRA, USCCA, volunteer for Kellogg Fire Department, learning from Rosetta Stone. He has been a member of the LDS Church for 50 years. He enjoyed playing golf, being on his computer, he enjoyed researching genealogy and filling in the family tree. He loved to travel and enjoyed taking his family to experience the wonders of the world. We remember traveling to places like England, Paris, Germany, ect. Dad didn't stop there. He visited places like Thailand, Australia, Scotland Wales, Italy, along the way learning different languages. This week we tried getting into his phone and found that he had it set to Korean, apparently he was trying to learn Korean. He loved playing the piano and would go to the ward to play on their organs, when they had one. He would debate politics with his children. He loved shooting with his children and is a great marksman. He loved the advancing technology and continually upgraded his electronic components. He liked the news, Glenn Beck, he stayed current with all current affairs. And loved watching crime sitcoms; Law and Order, Chicago PD, Judge Judy. He will be remembered for his sarcasm, humor; he was always joking with his loved ones, making them laugh. Even when his joke wasn't funny, he would still try it and what came of it. Witty, smart, and a loved father and husband.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Fisher. Children, Todd & Jennifer McLaughlin, Mike & Lisa Lambert, Mike & Pam Fisher, Jessica Fisher, Robert Fisher. Grand Children, Brandon & Brianna McLaughlin, Shawnie, Rylee & Jocelyn Johnson, Abby & Sammie, Jaxson, Arianna, Haylee, Gavin and Savannah, Kevin, KeSean, Antoine, Michael, Chris, & Kaytlin. Great Grandchildren, Cassidy & Nia. Sisters, Maureen & Gayla. Pets are Titan, Gunnar & Remmie.
The funeral service will be on Thursday August 15, 2019 at 12pm at the LDS Church 351 St John St, Sutherlin, OR 97479 with interment at the VA cemetery. The viewing will be held from 1015 to 1115 at the time of service.
