Obituary

Rebecca Kersch (Dawson), 76, passed away on Aug. 7, 2025, with her family by her bedside. She was born May 2, 1949, in Roseburg, Oregon, to Butch and Mickey Dawson. Rebecca was raised with her two sisters, Kitty and Cindy, and brother, Scott, in Olalla.
Rebecca enjoyed living in the country and would tell stories of the many pets she had growing up. A deer, a skunk, and a particular mischievous raccoon, Sneaky Pete, would always bring a smile to her face as she told the tale of the trouble he caused with his cold hands. Rebecca loved animals, especially cats of all kinds and wolves.
In 1967, Rebecca graduated from Douglas High School in Winston and went on to marry Dan in July of 1970. They had three children, Racyne, Kelley, and Warren.
She liked to fish, hunt for crawdads, swim, crochet, read romance novels, and watch NCIS. (She had a crush on Mark Harmon.) In the last five years, Rebecca must have crocheted hundreds of baby hats for the newborns at Mercy Hospital. If it were an activity where she didn't have to wear shoes, the happier she would be.
Rebecca is predeceased by her mom, Mickey Dawson, dad, Butch Dawson, and brother, Scott Dawson. She is survived by her three children, Racyne (Chris), Kelley, and Warren (Jessica), five grandchildren, Darin, Sabian, Eli, Lily, and Wesley, and sisters, Kitty (Denny) and Cindy (Chuck), and many nieces and nephews.
She and her infectious laugh will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A private service will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Winston Wildlife Safari.
