Obituary

Bailey, Nova Irene Nova Irene Bailey was born in Ralston, Oklahoma on January 21, 1926 to Frank and Annis Felkins. She had twelve brothers and sisters in her family. She passed away on May 15th, 2015 in Roseburg, Oregon after a short battle with cancer. Nova was 89 years old. Along with Ralston, Oklahoma, she lived in three other communities in that state: Pawnee, Skiatook and in Big Cabin. Later she moved to Kiowa, Colorado where she graduated from high school in 1945. She received a Bachelors of Arts degree from Rockmont Bible College in Denver, Colorado in 1951 and a Bachelors of Science and Education degree from Eastern Oregon College of Education in LaGrande, Oregon in 1955. She also attended Colorado Teachers College and Oregon College of Education. She taught school at a one room school house in Elbert County Colorado, at a Christian School in Bend Oregon and at Oakland Elementary near Roseburg. She gave up teaching when her son Kyle was born but went back to substitute teaching later and worked in both Baker and Medford, Oregon. She married Robert Bailey on June 15th, 1957 in Prineville, Oregon. Their first decade of marriage was spent in Roseburg where three sons were born to them. For most of her life she was a Christian and her devotion to Christ led to her work as a Sunday School teacher, church librarian, church clerk, greeter and in many other capacities at churches she attended. One of her passions was writing and she did it very well. That included writing a feature story on the 50th anniversary of the Roseburg Blast, which was published in the News Review. She penned short stories and poetry that was used in some mid-west publications as well. Family members and friends looked forward to her Christmas letters where she provided an overview on the previous year of activities for her and the family. Nova was a supporter of mission's organizations, contributing to the Flagstaff Mission to the Navajos for several decades and helping rescue missions and similar groups as well. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2005 and by twin sons Timothy and David who passed away in infancy in 1959. Six siblings preceded her in death as well. Nova is survived by her son Kyle and his wife Sherryl along with granddaughters Michaela and Maria. A Celebration of Life to honor Nova will be held on Saturday May 23, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Wellspring Bible Fellowship in Roseburg. Pastor Steve Walker of Redeemers Fellowship in Roseburg will officiate. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Nova's memory can be made to the Flagstaff Mission to the Navajos, 6 West Cherry Avenue in Flagstaff, Arizona 86001.
