Nancy Louise Cathcart passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 12, 2024. She is survived by her son Lance and partner Janna, daughter Mindy and husband Jim, grandchildren Mckynzie (Wyatt) and Bryce and her sister Audrey Jean.

Nancy was born on January 30, 1940 and adopted at birth by Bill and Esther Bennett who raised her and 4 foster children in their home in Washington.

Nancy married Vern Cathcart on December 27, 1968 in Weiser, Idaho. Nancy was a loving wife to her husband until his death in 2021. They married and raised sheep on the Kahn Ranch in Roseburg, OR. During lambing season she always had a box of bummer lambs in the house by the fireplace.

In the 80's and 90's Nancy worked as a legal secretary for Gordon Carlson, a local attorney in Roseburg. Although Gordon was the attorney, Nancy was the boss and set her own schedule around her kid's school or sports activities.  She later worked as a secretary for Neuner & Davidson and filled in at various law offices in town. Nancy was known to be a jokester in the office and loved to laugh.

Nancy was an avid gardener and always had an impeccable yard filled with beautiful flowers of all types. She loved to sew and making fleece blankets was her specialty. She enjoyed cooking and was one hell of a good cook, as Vern always said. She was actively involved in 4-H for many years as her kids grew up, and she was the leader of Deer Creek Livestock 4-H club for many years. She enjoyed raising registered Columbia and Suffolk sheep.

She was actively involved in the Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant for several years and was very passionate about the Pageant and the life of rodeo. She loved having company in their home, from rodeo cowboys, kids' teammates, foreign exchange students to anyone that was just passing through. All were welcome at the Cathcart house, and she made sure everyone was well fed and taken care of.

Nancy was a witty, sarcastic, brutally honest and classy woman. She loved to travel and had so many friends far and wide. If you were her friend, she was incredibly loyal and would go to bat for you in any situation. She was well known in the community so there was never a quick trip to the store with her. She always saw people she knew and it was a requirement to stop and chat, catch up on the tea.

To say Nancy loved to shop is an understatement. If she saw something that she liked she would buy two of them just in case. She was always well dressed and put together. When Macy's closed in Roseburg it truly was a tragedy for her.

Nancy was a lover of the sun and took every opportunity she could to get tan while working in the yard or just sitting in the sun.

If you knew her, you knew her favorite foods were seafood, chocolate and Pepsi. She also loved to smoke Virginia Slims, which were found stashed in every nook and cranny in their house and garage.

McKynzie and Bryce, her grandkids, were her entire world for the last 21 years of her life. She was the best Nonni and she was their caregiver when Mindy went back to work. She did everything and anything they wanted her to do, from picnics in the pasture to playing wiffleball in the front yard, to playing dolls, baking and swimming. She did it all for and with them.

Nancy had dementia and lived at Brookdale the last 5 years of her life. She was very well cared for and lived a full life up until the end. She never lost her sense of humor, honesty or sass.  She was blessed that the disease didn't take friends and family's  identities. She always remembered those she cared about and sometimes those she couldn't care less about. What she couldn't recall was what day it was, time of year, what she last ate, the less important things in life.

Nancy is finally healthy again and at peace with her mom, husband and so many special family friends that went before her. She will be missed by many and will always be loved.

Nancy's Celebration of Life will be held November 24, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Glide Community Center. 200662 N. Umpqua Hwy, Glide, OR.
