Obituary

Muriel Elaine Ross went home peacefully to the arms of Jesus on November 15, 2023 with family by her side. She was born in Forest Grove, OR on October 22, 1930 to her loving parents Emery and Ruth Reitan. Her family moved to Hood River when she was 5 years old and she was raised there graduating from Hood River High School in 1948. Muriel had a deep love for her dear Lord Jesus Christ who gave her a heart of gold. She had immense love for all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her family. She loved them all so dearly and with all of her heart.

Her parents bought her a piano when she was 15 years old, which is where her love of music began. After graduating from high school, she attended Biola University in Los Angeles, California studying music for three years.  She returned home to Hood River to work during the summers, which is where she met her husband, Max Post. They were married in 1952 and moved to Sutherlin where Max opened his Optometric office. With Muriel's love for her Lord Jesus Christ and her amazing talent on the piano she played the piano for the churches she attended in Sutherlin for over 50 years. Muriel also taught piano lessons to her children and also many local children and community members, always sharing her love for music. She also played the organ providing beautiful music for many services at the Chapel of the Firs over many years. Later in life she also worked for Roseburg Memorial Gardens as a pre-need counselor. Muriel remarried in 1990 to her loving husband, Jack Ross. They enjoyed 11 wonderful years traveling and just being together before Jack passed away in 2001.

Max and Muriel had four children who survive her. Mark (Bobbie) Post, Colleen (Scott) Loucks, Patty (Tim) Gray and Mike (Trina) Post. Her marriage to Jack also blessed her with a wonderful step-daughter Jody (Don) Witten. She had 14 grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Ryan (Emily) Post, Alex Post, Jaynie (Marvis) Stoney, Jonathan Loucks, Christine Loucks, Justin Gray, Cody (Sarah) Gray, Mindy (Marcus) Melendrez, Michael (Sarah) Post Jr., Nick (Ashley Seets) Post, Tarynne (Jim) Lay, Kaycee (Alex) Tessman, Alicia (Justin Silva) Post and Josh (Sara) Witten. She also had 14 great-grandchildren who enjoyed her loving heart. She also leaves a dear friend, John Rard, who enjoyed many years of dancing and fun together and a treasured family friend who was like a daughter to her, Cheryl Martin. Also, a very special thank you to the staff of Brookdale Care Center for their loving and wonderful care of our Mom the last few years.

There was a private family graveside service in Hood River where Muriel was laid to rest beside her parents and husband Jack. There will be a celebration of life in the coming months.  Taylor's Family Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
