Loving and devoted husband, daddy, son, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend, Michael Joseph Kramer, 53, left this life on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, after a courageous and lengthy battle with a glioblastoma tumor (cancer) of the brain. Mike was born in San Francisco, California, on October 14, 1956, and grew up in Glendora, California, attending local schools and St. Dorothy's Catholic Church until moving away for college. He attended Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He then worked for Taco Bell Corporation in Irvine, California. In 1986, FCC Commercial Furniture recruited Mike from Taco Bell, recognizing his strong sales skills, keen eye for interior design, strong work ethic, and warm and genuine personality. For almost 25 years and until his death, Mike worked for FCC, delighting his customers and employer in selling, overseeing and designing restaurant interiors around the US and internationally for Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, and others. Around 1993, FCC moved its headquarters and manufacturing facilities from southern California to Douglas County, bringing Mike as part of their team. Soon after arriving in Roseburg, Mike met the love of his life, Jennifer (Jenni) Lyda, and the two were married July 27, 1996. Mike and Jenni were great friends and partners, loving to go out to dinner, spend quality time with friends, see the latest movies, play board games, and vacation in the Hawaiian Islands. They were parishioners at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Roseburg. They worked hard as business partners, to find, buy, and develop ideal investment properties. For the last 10 years or so, Mike designed and participated in the remodeling or construction of numerous homes, including their lovely family home, those of several friends, and various spec' and investment properties. The favorite jewel he created was the Douglas County residence of brother-in-law Carlos Mencia. Mike's eye for interior and landscape design can be described as the fusion of calm, tasteful quality, and impeccable detail, providing unique touches the home owner hadn't yet realized they wanted. Mike & Jenni were blessed with two bright, talented, and loving sons, Christopher Michael and Jeffrey Michael. Mike loved his boys so much and especially enjoyed the early morning times with them, playing with legos, watching movies, and reading to them. He cherished the moments when they would each linger for a snuggle on his lap. Later they would wash the cars, clean the garage together (although it was hardly needed) and maintain their lovely yard. From Mike, the boys inherited their love of reading, a talent for team sports, and other honorable traits that will be revealed as they grow. They know that their daddy is an angel now, and that from heaven he will enjoy watching them grow. Mike loved cars, especially Cameros, Chevelles, and Ferraris, and was working on a special project of rebuilding a stunning metallic blue 1967 Chevelle SS 396, which is close to completion. He made it known that the car would be a family heirloom for his boys. Mike leaves on this earth his wife, Jenni; sons Christopher (9) and Jeffrey (5); parents Pat and Chuck Kramer of Bermuda Dunes, California; sister, Kate Salvesen of Redlands, California; mother- and father-in-law Doug and Gaylene Lyda of Roseburg, sister-in-law Molly Lyda of Sherman Oaks, California; sisters- and brothers-in-law Carri Lyda and George Lucier of Tooele, Utah, and Amy (Lyda) and Ned (Carlos) Mencia of Encino, California; 4 nieces and 2 nephews - Patty and Evan Spurlock, Krissy Salvesen, Catherine and Vivienne Lucier, and Lucas Mencia; his best friend Lou Rachwitz and many, many dear friends. Mike's funeral mass was held Saturday, October 16 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Friends and acquaintances are invited to sign the online guest book at Taylor's Family Mortuary.
