Obituary

Margaret Inez Pierce cherished mother, grandmother and wife passed away peacefully at her home on 8/04/23 with family by her side. Even though Margaret had lived in Oregon for many decades she was still a proud Texan. Born in Whon, TX on August 23, 1933 to Jim and Inez Ramsey. She was the oldest of their eleven children and step-sister to Jim's seven children from a previous marriage. Margaret spent her childhood caring for her siblings and picking cotton in the fields on their family farm. After a short courtship, she married James E. Pierce. James always said the moment he saw her he knew he was going to marry her. They were happily married for 60 years until his passing on 8/23/10. James and Margaret began their family in Brownwood, TX. They had three children James Dale, Terry Lynn, and Thyria Jneece. James had always loved Oregon and moved the family to Azalea when Thyria was five years old. The family moved a few times in the area before settling at a dairy farm on South Myrtle. The years at the dairy were a lot of work for the family but they also made some great memories there too. Once their children were grown they sold the dairy and eventually made their way to Ontario, OR. James loved to fish on the Snake River and Margaret enjoyed the close church community they had there. After many years in Ontario they moved back to Roseburg. Throughout Margaret's life she was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother. Her home was filled with the smell of homemade tea cakes baking in the oven, a pot of beans boiling on the stove, the sound of old Westerns playing on the T.V., and her softly singing church hymns in the kitchen. She enjoyed church potlucks, family fish frys, gardening, knitting and sewing. Margaret will be remembered for being loyal in her faith, strict in her morals and loving to her family. Her family will miss her homemade tea cakes, banana pudding, pea salad and her huge garden tomatoes. Her passing has left an emptiness in the lives of her loved ones but they are comforted by the many years of wonderful memories. She is survived by her three children and their spouses. Jim and Rose Ann Pierce, Terry and Jodi Pierce both of Winston and Thyria Pierce of Forest Grove. Four grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Lorri McGarvey of Myrtle Creek, Heather Pierce of Lincoln City, Jamie and Trisha of Winston, Melissa and Toby of Forest Grove and many great and great great grandchildren.
