Obituary

Marcia Robbins Hendrick, age 77, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025.

Born in April of 1948, in Santa Ana, CA, Marcia was the daughter of Richard and Janet Robbins and lived her young life surrounded by her older brothers, extended family, life-long friends and girl scouts. Marcia graduated from Santa Ana High School and earned her degree and teaching certificate from the University of Redlands. Marcia married her husband Ken in 1974 and life took them briefly to Longview, Washington before settling in Roseburg, Oregon in 1977.

Marcia was a devoted wife, mother, friend and teacher. Her family and students benefited from her creativity, organization, and joy for life. In her classroom there would always be skits, book read-alouds, pancake breakfasts, art projects, amazing field trips to tidepools and forestry demonstrations. She loved teaching and sharing the joy of learning with her colleagues and students.

Faith, music and community were ever-present in Marcia's life.  As a teenager, she enjoyed playing the flute and singing in choirs. She adored her time singing and in leadership with the University Singers at the University of Redlands. Marcia and Ken eventually moved to Roseburg, joined the First Presbyterian Church and began a life of friendship, passion and service with the congregation. She shared her musical talents by singing in the choir, playing handbells, conducting the children's choir (aptly named the Joyful Noises), and joining many committees, movements and celebrations. She also loved being a part of Vintage Singers and PEO.

Marcia delighted in her family and we delighted in her. Ken and Marcia loved to camp, travel and be with their kids and grandkids. Her grandchildren called her "Amma", and we think that was one of her most prized roles in life. She made quilts for each grandchild, loved to read them books and sing songs, and looked forward to making each visit together special. Her husband, Ken, was her rock through good times and bad. He was an excellent care-giver for her as she endured Alzheimer's disease these last years.

Marcia is survived by her husband (Ken), two children, Karen (Kevin) and Matt (Eden), and 4 grandchildren (Daniel, Celia, Jackson, Hannah).

Special thanks for the unwavering support of her church, neighborhood and PEO friends as well as the caring help of Callahan Memory Care. Thank you to the many who filled her life with love, and contributed to Marcia and Ken's well-being through challenging times. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the First Presbyterian Church of Roseburg-Memorial/Music fund.

A Memorial Service will be shared together on Saturday, September 13th, 2025 at 1 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Roseburg. Reception and memories will follow downstairs.
