Lynda Gale Fowler of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. Lynda was born on November 16, 1945 in Lakeview, Oregon, to parents Jack and Norma (Ogle) Cummins. The family moved to Roseburg when she was two years old, where she grew up alongside her brother Kent and graduated from Roseburg High School in 1964. She was a good student and an avid cheerleader. She graduated from Oregon State University in 1968, with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She went on to teach grades 1 - 3 for over thirty years at Green Elementary. It was no secret that she was a favorite among many of the faculty and it is almost impossible to get through the checkout line at the grocery store without running into one of her former students, all of whom have a story to tell about something she did to make them feel special. She was married to Jorgen Fowler, father of her two sons Tony and Evan. Lynda loved people and was well known for her ability to strike up a conversation with anyone that crossed her path. She was interested in everything and had a rare ability to make you feel right at home, even if you'd only just met. She always wanted to be surrounded by family and friends, especially her baby grandson, Jackson, who she could never get enough of. Her pets were always considered a part of the family. For years she volunteered for both the SPCA and Saving Grace, and it took nearly every ounce of will power not to bring her work home with her (and in a few cases, she did). Above all else, she was sincere. She felt the pain of others as if it were her own, and she never wanted anyone to be excluded from anything. She was a great mother (and grandmother) and had many friends who loved her. She certainly left her mark on the world and will not be forgotten. Lynda is survived by her mother, Norma Cummins; her brother, Kent (Meg) Cummins; her two sons, Tony Fowler and Evan Fowler; her grandson, Jackson Fowler; and her dog, Giselle. She is preceded in death by her father, Jack Cummins and her fiancé, Terry Fitzgerald. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 14 at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Roseburg at 1 p.m. Immediately following the service, the family will be hosting a picnic in Lynda's garden, her favorite place to be and an extraordinary vision that she brought to life. If you would like to donate something on her behalf, the SPCA and Saving Grace are two organizations that were very dear to her, as it was her personal mission to help find homes for cats and dogs in Douglas County.
