At age 99, our dear mother, Lila Naas Hulsey, passed away peacefully in the home she shared with the Campman family.
The youngest of six children, Lila's life began on a northeast Montana homestead where she and her brother Willis herded sheep on horseback, encountering rattlesnakes and other perils in a harsh environment. They had no running water or electricity, yet she remembers that time of her life as some of her happiest days.

At age 12, her family moved to Oregon seeking a better life. She spent her teens in Canyonville and remembers the attack on Pearl Harbor at age 18 after which her boyfriend from Myrtle Creek, Elbert (Al) Naas was drafted into the Army. They married in 1942, and moved to Los Angeles where Al was stationed. Lila worked at AiResearch, an aircraft factory, where she joined other women of that era in the war effort.
After World War II ended, they moved to Roseburg to continue their lives together and start a family, with the arrival of children Bonnie and Kent.

Lila would describe herself as a housewife, but had various jobs in Roseburg, such as church secretary, assembler in a venetian blind factory and 20 years as a top-selling Avon lady, where she was a friend and confidant to many of her customers. At home, she created tasty meals for family dinners, quite often using a crockpot. She was also involved in many First Christian Church activities (member since 1946), including cooking and event planning.
She lovingly took care of our dad Al, during his later years as he dealt with Parkinson's, then remarried shortly after his death. Art Hulsey was the second love of her life and they enjoyed 10 years together, touring Oregon and California, before Art passed away.
We will always remember Lila as a loving and generous person, with a quick wit and many stories to tell.
Lila is survived by her daughter Bonnie Naas of La Verne, California, son Kent Naas of Sahuarita, Arizona, and granddaughter Jaime Hevener of Arizona, her husband Jeff and great-grand-children Karia and Karson, along with many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by grandson Andy Naas and daughter-in-law Jan Naas.
