Kelly Ann
Mitchell
Nov 5, 1959 — Aug 6, 2025
Roseburg
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Kelly (Whitaker) Mitchell, who left this world on Aug. 6, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on Nov. 5, 1959, in Marinette, Wisconsin, to Gene and Janet Whitaker, Kelly's journey began in the heart of the Midwest before her family moved to Oregon when she was just six months old. Oregon became her home, where she would create a lifetime of cherished memories.
A proud graduate of Oakland High School in 1977, Kelly's life took a beautiful turn when she married her beloved husband, Jay Mitchell, in August of 1983. Together, they nurtured a loving family, welcoming two wonderful children, Jamie and Michael, who were the light of her life.
Kelly was many things to many people: a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a loving grandmother, a supportive sister, a caring aunt, and a true friend. Her warmth and kindness knew no bounds; she had a unique ability to make everyone she encountered feel special and valued. Her infectious spirit and genuine smile brightened the lives of all who knew her.
In addition to her family, Kelly was a dedicated professional. She began her career as a dispatcher for her father's company, Gene Whitaker, Inc., and after the passing of her beloved father, she became the CEO, a role she cherished until her passing. Her love for her job, her employees, and her colleagues was evident in everything she did.
Kelly was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Gene and Janet Whitaker. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jay Mitchell; her brothers, Keith (Madeline) Whitaker and Brett (Jaime) Whitaker; her sister, Debbie Whitaker; her children, Jamie (Edward) Turner and Michael (Sabrina) Mitchell; Ronald (Gina) Mitchell: Tasha Bell; Shannen Mitchell; Jason (Brenda) Mitchell; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Bradley and Landon Peterson; Oaklyn and Moxon Mitchell; Kylee Gulseth; Devin Wheeler; Cydney and Hailey Bell; Macey Magee; Riley and Jack Mitchell; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Kelly had a passion for life that was reflected in her love for trips to the beach, camping adventures, music, and dancing. Most importantly, she treasured the time spent with her family, creating lasting memories that will be held close to their hearts.
A celebration of Kelly's life will be held at 12 p.m. on Oct. 4, 2025, in Douglas Hall at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Following the celebration, there will be an informal potluck and a truck parade in her honor, with further details to follow.
In this time of sorrow, let us remember Kelly for the love she shared, the joy she brought, and the legacy of kindness she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved her.
