John Edward Law was born in Los Angeles, CA on 10/28/1937 to Barcus H. and Grace (Woodward) Law – their 4th child and only son.  He was 87 years old on 1/9/2025, when he took his last breath here on earth in the arms of his wife; a moment later, he laid eyes on Jesus and his eternal home in heaven.

John is survived by wife Patricia, daughter Karynn (Oregon), son John (Amber), granddaughter Ashley (Michael) and grandson Jordan (Nicole), great-grandson Rowan (all from California), and sister Doris Tardani (Michigan).

Following graduation from high school, John went on active duty with the US Navy. His last boat, the USS Sargo, was the first nuclear submarine to negotiate their way to the North Pole under and through the ice-covered Bering Strait in the winter of 1959/1960.  When they surfaced, they planted the Hawaiian flag in celebration of their historic journey.

Christmas Eve 1958 John met the heart-stopping beauty Patricia (Pat) Queen, telling friends that night "I'm going to marry that girl."  Upon his return from the North Pole, he did indeed marry that sweet girl on April 2,1960.

John made a career shift into law enforcement, first with the City of West Covina Police Department and then with the California Highway Patrol, where he began his career as a motorcycle officer in the Greater Los Angeles area.

John and Pat welcomed two children into their famly; Karynn (1961) and John R. (1965).  John was a voracious reader and loved studying and learning. He continued to challenge himself at every stage of his life, earning an Associate degree and studying for promotional exams, which allowed him to move up through the ranks of the CHP.  John loved reading and learning about our American History, Civil War battles, and current events.

In 1975, his sister Doris and various work colleagues shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with him.  In the midst of shaving one morning – the truth of the gospel and Jesus' saving grace hit home. With shaving cream still on his face, he suddenly understood.  He invited Jesus into his life, accepting Christ's sacrifice for him and committing his life to God (the Father, the Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit) by loving and living for Him.  John's faith grew quickly and the life-long learner was determined to absorb as much as he could.  He took immense joy in studying the Bible, memorizing scriptures, learning about biblical history and sharing his faith and what he learned with those he loved and came to know.

He retired in 1987 and moved with Pat to build their dream home in Paradise, California.  Time with growing grandchildren, Church events, a mission trip to Papua New Guinea, a month in Israel and a year in southern Russia were all experiences he held dear.

2018 found John and Pat downsizing to their perfect retirement home in January and then losing every remaining earthly possession in the Camp Fire in November the same year; starting all over in Oregon at the age of 82.  Life is not for the faint of heart.  But in all this, John continued to look to his God for direction, where he found strength and purpose.  He relished spending time with other God-loving men and watching family members and friends grow in their relationship with Christ.

John has mentioned time and again… "I have lived far longer than the average man is allowed… should God allow me to stay here a while longer or decide to let me come home, it is a win-win."   He is now on his Eternal Patrol.
