Obituary

John Nate Jelley was born on September 15, 1956, in Lakeview, Oregon. His childhood took him on a unique journey—first from Lakeview to Portland, Oregon, then to Springfield, Missouri, and eventually across the world to India, where his parents, Caroll and Bonnie Jelley, served as missionaries. Both have since passed and are buried in the country they devoted their ministry to. John spent three formative years in India before returning to the United States, carrying with him experiences that shaped his compassion and worldview.

He later lived in Vallejo, California, before returning to Oregon, spending his remaining years in Lakeview, Springfield, and finally Roseburg.

On November 21, 2025, after a year of suffering following a stroke, John left this earth for his heavenly home. Heaven became a little more crowded that day as he was welcomed into the arms of Jesus.

John is survived by his children, Justin and Pollyanna, and his foster son, Eric. He leaves behind his brother, C. Edward Jelley; his sister, Terry High; and his two foster sisters, Martha and Ruth. He also leaves behind his cousin—and brother in every way that mattered—Ernie. He is further survived by numerous aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will deeply miss him.

John's life was marked by quiet strength, a loving heart, and a faith shaped by a lifetime of diverse experiences. His presence will be missed, but his memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him
