Jim "Don't call me James" David Putman ages 64 passed away suddenly March 3rd at his home at 79 Manor Loop in Roseburg. Jim was born at the Madera Sanitarium in Madera CA to Everett and Ruby Putman of Chowchilla, CA on October 13, 1947. He was the youngest of two children and throughout out his life was known to fight with his older brother Earl Edward Putman. Jim was heavily involved in sports all through school and even well into his adult life. He coached his sons, daughter, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews as well as his grandchildren in sports. Jim was a graduate of Chowchilla Union High school class of 1965 and enjoyed returning for the reunions. He served in the California National Guard for6 years as a Fire Control Instrument Repairman and Marksman. While serving he received a California Service Ribbon in the Berkley Riots. He was honorable discharge in September of 1971,after which, he decided to immediately re-enlist for two more years as a Squad leader. He was honorably discharged again with the rank of Sargent in November of 1973. Jim was married twice. He and his first wife, Cherrine Gay Boqua, were wed in September of 1967. They had 2 boys and 1 girl.They divorced in 1977. Jim remarried in 1980 to Mary Marie Monroe who had 4 boys.Jim and Mary worked very hard to raise all the children together on very limited funds. Jim received an Associate in Science for General Business Technology and a Diploma in Merchandising from Umpqua Community College in 1982. Jim played country music locally since moving here in the early Seventies and has played with numerous local and international musicians. He was known to play at the Spot in Riddle, Fat Harvey's in Canyonville, The Elks, The Hotel and others in Myrtle Creek, the Country Palace in Roseburg, and the Eagles in Sutherlin among numerous others. Jim is survived by; Donnie Melson and his wife Julie of Myrtle Creek Michael Putman and his wife Candace of Canyonville George Monroe David Putman and his Girlfriend Sylvia Montelongo of Oakland April Bellinger and her husband Tim of Myrtle Creek 14 Grandchildren 4 Great Grandchildren and too many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews to name. Jim was preceded in death by his Wife Mary, Sons Michael Shane Morris, Johnnie Ray Monroe, his Parents and his brother. There will be no funeral or graveside services by his request. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering, March 31, 2012 at 1 pm at the Riverbend Park Pavilion 31 Thompson Ave Winston Oregon.
