Obituary

James Ray Robinson, age 77, of Roseburg, Oregon, was set free from his ailing body and reunited in Heaven with his loving wife, Shirley, on Thursday, February 2, 2017.
Born to Paul and Alice Robinson, James spent his youth in the Salem, Oregon, area where he excelled as a student and athlete at multiple levels.  An honors graduate and football All American from Willamette University, Jim quickly set his sights on becoming a teacher and coach.
"ROBBIE," as he was known to his colleagues, settled in Roseburg in the early 1960s, and began a remarkable career as both educator and coach.  From his early days at Freemont Middle School onto his long tenure at Roseburg Senior High, Robinson transitioned from football assistant to head coach and then found his calling in the world of Track and Field and Cross Country.  He was a dedicated physical education teacher who enjoyed nothing more than to see his students and athletes succeed through their hard work and preparation.  Becoming a counselor and being able to help kids in ways beyond athletics proved to be a natural fit for a man that dedicated his entire life to the youth of Roseburg.  Even as his health was failing him, Robbie set such a fine example to all those around him with his grace and humility.
Robbie was so proud of his boys, Michael Robinson, of Phoenix, Arizona, and  wife Caroline, and Thomas Robinson, of Monroe, North Carolina, and  wife Heidi; along with his boys, James is survived by his brother, Bob and wife Donna; nieces, Nan and Cristy; stepsons, Bob and Jim; and stepdaughter, Tami; along with multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
