JACK NELS POULSEN The Man; the Legend Jack passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011 in his home at Winston, Oregon at the age of 53. He was born on May 30th, 1958 in Grants Pass, Oregon to James A. Poulsen and Artie S. (Poulsen) Smith. There he was raised to be well educated and hard working. He attended Rogue Community College and eventually became the Student Body President. He used his experience to run for county Commissioner in 1982. He married Pamela Wilmoth on May 1, 1982 at the Church of the Brethren. In 1983, they moved to Tenmile, Oregon, where they raised their two children, Dona and James. Jack worked at various jobs over the years in the Roseburg area. He worked at Bayliner Marine for many years. His most recent job was at the Love's Country Store. Hunting and fishing were his favorite pass times with his father, uncle, wife and children. When Jack purchased a computer, he found a new hobby, and would spend hours working on them. He also loved to go shopping. He would buy very unusual gifts and then give them away to people. He was known for buying How-to-do books to study and then work on the items whether it was cars, bullets, or computers. He did it all. Within the last few years of his life, his family had to give up their Tenmile home and move into the town of Winston. The family had a strong bond with each other, and became well respected in the community. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Jim on November 1995, and his Uncle Dan on January 2010. He is survived by his wife, Pamela, his children, Dona and James all of Winston. His mother, Artie and husband Gary of Arizona, his brother, Ron and wife Leola of Arizona, his nephews, Matthew of Georgia, Michael and wife Cyntha of Virginia, and great nephew Aiden of Virginia. Jack was a unique man and well admired. He made many friends, especially through the internet. He recently rekindled his friendship with his old classmates, which brought much joy to his heart. A memorial service will be held at the Winston Mennonite Church, 430 Johnson Street in Winston. It will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held following the service at their residence in Winston.
