Obituary

Howard Lynn Hodges passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the age of 92. He was born May 26, 1924 in Manchester, South Dakota to Arthur L and Margaret B. Hodges. Howard grew up on the family farm with his 3 brothers and 3 sisters SW of DeSmet, SD. After graduating from De Smet highschool he continued to farm and met and married his love Erville Hammers of Esmond, SD on August 26, 1945. In 1952, the family moved to Huron, SD where he was employed as a police officer for many years. In 1967, he enrolled in the National Electronics Institute in Denver, CO and graduated in 1968. He worked in this industry until moving to Roseburg in July 1974. At this time he and wife Erville bought the Yum Yum Donut shop in 1975 and ran it until it was sold in 1978. Later on Howard became a mail contractor for TMO out of Seattle, WA and was hauling mail from Roseburg to Winston. In addition he also had a 53 mile rural delivery route until he was forced to retire due to health reasons in 1989. Howard was a member of Foursquare Gospel Center Church in Winston for many years and then Winston Christian Church for his remaining years. Howard was preceded in death by his three brothers and three sisters, son Raylyn Hodges, Nov. 5, 1995, and wife Erville, June 1, 2007. He is survived by three daughters, Gail J. and Kathryn K. Hodges and Laura Hartley all of Winston, OR. He has 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Services to be held on November 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Roseburg Memorial Gardens located at 1056 NW Hicks Street, Roseburg, OR. Officiating will be Pastor Jason Baker of Winston Christian Church.
