Obituary

Gordon Ray Staffield was born on July 15, 1930 in Hammonton, New Jersey. When he was 1 year old his family moved to California and lived in the middle of an Orange Grove. He grew up in Ontario, California Graduating from Chaffee High School and College. He joined the US Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Texas, where he married his first wife Jean, who passed away in June of 2006. They then moved to Alaska where he completed his Military Enlistment. Once back home to Ontario, he started his career with the US Postal Service. He and Jean had five children, Donna (Don) Henry, Gary (Kay) Staffield, Mark Staffield, Craig Staffield, Lori (Dave) Ayres (Lori predeceased her dad December 2024), Five Grandchildren, and Five Great-grandchildren.

In 1959, one hour after the Roseburg Blast, he and his family arrived in Roseburg where he had transferred to the Roseburg Post Office and he became known as the face behind the window. Gordon retired from the Post Office in 1985. Upon retirement he and his son Craig started building houses. His love for building included working on several homes with Habitat for Humanity. He also volunteered with the Roseburg Fish Food Pantry, and his church, Faith Lutheran.

In 2011 he met his current wife Carolyn Wikstrom, and they were married on September 13, 2013. Together they took several trips to the Mid West and the East Coast. Along with their marriage, Gordon inherited many bonus children. Jeff (Sharon) Wikstrom, Julie (Curt) Pedersen, David (Janet) Myers, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

On his 90th birthday he decided he was old enough and could retire. He then retired to his favorite chair where he watched many Old Old Westerns and Football, he especially loved the Raiders. He loved his cat Obnoxious (Obi) and their dogs Dork, & Lilly.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday November 1st, 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 1771 W Harvard, Roseburg, OR 97471. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fish Food Pantry, 405 NE Jerrys Dr, Roseburg OR 97470.
