Gladys "LaVonne" Chasteen
(October 14, 1937 - October 22, 2025)
Gladys LaVonne Chasteen was born October 14, 1937 in Tishamingo, Oklahoma. LaVonne went to be with her Savior Wednesday, October 22, 2025. She was surrounded by her large, extended family in the days, hours, and minutes prior to her passing.
LaVonne was a tax preparer for many years and most recently worked at Tax Strategies in Winston, Oregon. She helped family members file their tax returns every year asking for nothing in return. She even completed the Oregon 30-hour Continuing Education Tax Training in September 2025 passing the test with a 98%. She was known for her sharp mind and detailed memory up until the very end.
LaVonne was known first and foremost for her love and faithfulness to the Lord. She loved the Word of God and spent much of her day reading from her Bible. She was on her knees in prayer daily for every single member of her family. Her greatest wish was that her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren would know Jesus and someday make Heaven their home.
She also loved attending church services and serving her church family. For many years, she was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, helped serve at church activities, and especially loved making food and baked goods for Sunday Services. Her home hosted many church gatherings.
LaVonne created a home that was the backdrop for so many wonderful family holidays and traditions. From Memorial Day campouts, backyard volleyball games and barbecues, Labor Day family reunions, Sunday dinners, Thanksgiving meals, and Christmas celebrations, her home was the gathering place.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, Thurman Lee Marical and Myrtle LaVice Marical, her husband, Dawsey Eugene Chasteen, and her sons Steve and Mike Chasteen.
Second to her love for God was the love and joy she had in her family. She is survived by her children Jack (Wendy), Andy (Tina), Carrie Crouse (Todd), and Matt (Helga), 18 grandchildren and 20 (soon to be 21) great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind a legacy of love for God, love for family, and love for her country.
