Gilbert Vialpando age 78 of Sutherlin, OR has passed away February 4, 2017. Gilbert fought a long and brave battle with lung cancer and passed peacefullyin his sleep. He was surrounded by family and loved ones as he left this Earth to be with our Lord in Heaven. Gilbert was born in Alamosa, Colorado on June 19, 1938, the son of Lazaro and Eva Vialpando. At the age of 18, Gilbert served his country while in the United States Navy; it was during this time that he met his beloved wife Maria. They were married in San Diego, California on February 21, 1959. After serving in the military, Gilbert became a carpenter for the Navy Public Works Department where he worked for 26 years before retiring. Soon after he relocated to Oregon. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maria, and children Joseph, Larry, Lisa, Tommy, Anthony, Alma and Lil' Joey. He leaves behind so many wonderful memories with his granddaughters Amanda, Marissa, Emily, Carina and great-grandchildren, Greyson and Oliver. There will be a military honors service for Gilbert at the Roseburg National Cemetery on Friday February 17, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. Private family committal will follow later that day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at chase bank in Gilbert Vialpando's name to help the family with funeral costs.
