Obituary

Gary F. Kennaday ( "Aubie") of Roseburg was born in Wyoming on February 7, 1942. His family moved to Oregon when he was young, and Gary was raised and educated in the Glide area. He attended OSU after graduating from Glide High School in 1960. Gary spent many years working in the car and truck business in this community. He changed careers in 1996, and continued to work in the finance and securities business until his death, most recently as the Roseburg Branch Manager of United Planners. During his childhood, he learned to hunt with his family, and it continued to be a life-long passion for him. Annual trips to Vale, Oregon for pheasant hunting were his delight, as was time spent duck hunting at the pond near Glide with friends, and later, his sons. Deer and elk hunting were also great adventures to him. In February of this year, Gary, with his son Landyn and friend Bruce Sconce, had a successful elk hunt in the Rock Creek area, which meant the world to him. Spending time golfing with friends became another of Gary's favorite activities over the years. He always enjoyed being outdoors, especially working in his garden and orchard with his family. But, he never missed an opportunity to watch a good ball game or golf match on TV either. In October of 1980, his days of being a "confirmed bachelor" were coming to an end when he met Alyce Ann, although he took some time to realize that. They were married September 7, 1985 and together had two sons and a daughter. Being the father of five and grandfather of three gave him no choice but to remain young at heart. He was devoted to his family at all times. With loving family at his side, Gary left this world May 19, 2012 to be with the Lord forever. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen Stockwell Kennaday and Forest J. Kennaday, his older brother Jack Wayne Kennaday, grandparents and many aunts and uncles, and his mother-in-law Helen Marie Thompson. His faithful bird dogs Penny, Angel, Katie, B.J., China, Jazz, Fox, and Sam, who were such an important part of his life, also preceded him. He is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Alyce Ann, and their children Hallie Marie, Gabriel, and Landyn of Roseburg, daughter Chalase Peddicord (and her husband Chris ) of Minnesota, daughter Kelli Kennaday (and her husband Doug) of California, brother Michael Kennaday, Uncle Lincoln Kennaday and Aunt Joan Kennaday of Glide, nephews Brian Jewell and Christopher Jewell of Roseburg, Corban Jewell of Eugene, Todd Kennaday, Darrin Kennaday, Jeff Kennaday, Brett Kennaday, nieces Ann Jewell of Eugene, (and her fiancee Trevis Munson) Laura Jewell of Eugene, grandchildren Jack, Ellen and Amelia, father-in-law Ted Thompson, sister-in-law Candice Jewell, many cousins and devoted friends, and his beloved bird dog Ruby and cat Precious. During Gary's illness and the time following his death, our family has been so blessed by the kindness of friends. There are no words to express our gratitude to all who have helped in so many ways. Memorial Services for Gary will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Garden Valley Christian Assembly. Immediately following the service, friends and family will gather at the Roseburg Country Club for refreshments and fellowship in Gary's honor. We look forward to having friends share their memories of Gary.
