Gary Lee Cross of Roseburg, Oregon, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Oct 6, 2024. He
was surrounded by his loving family when he peacefully passed away. Born March 22, 1951, in Lebanon,
Oregon, to Raymond and Ardell Cross. He entered the Army in Dec. 1969, completed basic training at Ft.
Polk, Louisiana, and was stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, where he was part of the 82nd Airborne.
He served in Vietnam from May 1971, until March 1972, as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne
"Screaming Eagles" and as a medic. He was known as "Doc". While in Vietnam he was promoted to Army
specialist 4 near Chu Lai. He was very proud of his service and honored to serve his country.
After he served his time in the military, he worked many years as a sewing machine mechanic. He
worked for Movie Star and Liberty Aerospace while in Mississippi. After moving to Oregon, he worked
for Werner Works, Bayliner and owned his own business.
Outside of spending time with his family, friends and beloved dogs, he enjoyed working out, running,
knife making, fishing and riding his motorcycles. Gary is survived by his two children Teresa Bell (Justin),
Jenny Breland (Keith), his grandson Braeden Lee Bacot, sisters Norma King and Bonnie LaBonte and
brother Steve. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Donna, his parents, brothers Raymond,
Richard "Dick" Donald, Bob "Dusty" Ronald and sisters Everlyn "Mae" Meeks, Lois Finney and Rhonda
Lee Uliano.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, at Riversdale Grange in Roseburg.
Friends and family are invited to join. A private military service and burial will be held for him at the VA
cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Saving Grace Pet adoption center
in Roseburg, as this cause was very dear to his and Donna's hearts.
Gary will be remembered as a kind, loving man that loved Jesus, life, his family, his dogs and for always
making everyone around him laugh, even in the hardest of times. He will be missed by so many. His
daughters would like to extend a special thank you to his nephew Lyle Cross and special friend, but more
like a sister, Barbara Robinson. You were both such a blessing to our Dad and to us.
