When you view a piece of wood in your home, remember Fredrick Ward Finster. He worked 41 years as an owner/operator of a log truck to bring you those wood products from the forests of Douglas County. Fred was born November 9, 1921 in Estacada, Oregon and died Saturday, January 14, 2012. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a ship welder from 1942-1946. He attended North Roseburg Evangelical Free Church and Westside Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joachim Finster, and Frieda Flubacher Finster, son, Riley Joe Finster, sister, Gertrude Stringham, brothers Samuel Finster and Frank Finster. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Lou Finster; his two sons, Fred L. and Charles B. Finster; his sister Ruth Benson; and three grandsons, Austin R. Finster, Andrew J. Finster, and Connor L. Tilley. A memorial was held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Avamere Hillsboro, located at 2000 SE 30th Ave. Hillsboro, OR, 97123. Remembrances can be sent to your favorite charity.
