Francis Raymond Nicholson passed away the morning of January 9, 2012 at the age of 76. Francis was born on February 26, 1935 in Coulee, Washington to Frank William Nicholson of Ireland and Susan Neddow of Cheyboygan, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Linda Mae Nicholson and special friend Girtie Easley. Francis is survived by his four children: Jayne Hazen of California, Frank of Texas, and Scott and Shaun of Oregon, grandchildren Shane, Natalya, Gabrielle, and Logen, and special friend Marsella Frederick of Coos Bay, Oregon. Francis was one of the "last great truck drivers." He knew or had heard of at least every trucking company that ran the road. He could fix almost anything and was always asked by his family/friends to repair vehicles instead of mechanics. He loved to tell stories and had a great memory when it came to things mechanical. His hobbies included fishing, log trucks, and old trucking stories. Francis was drafted to Korea in 1958 and served until 1959 when he was honorably discharged. Francis was a hard worker and worked all his life for himself and numerous companies. He was a good friend and father. Friends and family may pay their respects on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and again on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from 12:00-5:00 pm. A celebration of his life will be held at the VFW hall in Roseburg on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 4:00 pm. Please call (541) 430-8106 for details. In lieu of flowers the family asks the donations be made to the Arbor Day Foundation in his name.
