Ellen Joyce Smith Warner, 90, passed away in her home on Oct. 13, 2023.

Ellen was born Jan. 6, 1933 in Odum, Georgia, to Sherod Smith, Sr. and Addie Belle Clark Smith. She lived in Georgia until she was 13, when she and her mother moved to Idaho to join Sherrod Smith, Jr. after he returned from the Navy. There Ellen met Lewis Warner, who thought she was "the prettiest girl in the eighth grade." Lewis and Ellen married in April 1951, when both were eighteen. Shortly afterward, Ellen's widowed mother remarried. Ellen was very fond of her stepfather, John Morgan Wilson. She had only met her biological father one time, when she was 5. Lewis and Ellen were married nearly 53 years, and produced four children together.

Ellen loved doing family history and making quilts. She also spent many enjoyable hours reading. She was predeceased by her mother, both her fathers, her three siblings Dorothy Smith Poindexter, Bernice Smith Bates and Sherrod Smith, Jr., her eldest son, John Morgan Warner, a daughter-in-law, Joyce E. Koonsman Palmer Warner, and one grand-daughter.

Ellen is survived by her three remaining children, Rebecca Babb, Jeffrey D. Warner, and Debora S. Warner, and daughter-in-law Mary A. Bailey Warner, her 33 other grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews and many good friends.

The family wishes especially to thank her long-time caregiver, Margaret McEwing, special friends Dennis and Gayle Randell, and the hospice nurses who helped with her care in her final days.

A viewing will be held at 10 am on Friday, Oct. 20 at 340 Glenhart Ave.in Winston, with the funeral to follow at 11 am. Interment will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
