Dorothy A. Benson/McCord passed away on Friday, February 12, 2010 at the age of 89. She was born on November 5, 1920 in Burley, Idaho. The family moved to Ely, Nevada in the late 1920's, where the family was employed by the Kennecott Copper Mines in Ruth, Nevada. Dorothy married Gale H. Benson in 1938. They were blessed with three sons, Wayne, Jerry and Bobby. They moved to San Francisco during the war years where she worked at Mare Island as a welder on submarines while her husband fought in WWII. When the war was over they moved to Camas Valley, Oregon, where they operated a sawmill for several years. In the middle 1940's they moved to Winston, Oregon and started Benson Logging, Working for Roseburg Lumber until Gale passed away on September 6, 1968. Dorothy was married to Don Cundick in 1969. They divorced in 1989. Dorothy was very active in the Winston Senior Center participating in different activates with them, including (Are you OK) and served as President from 1997 to 1998. It was during her involvement with the Senior Center that she met Charles (Charley) McCord. They were married in 1997 and enjoyed many years of traveling together until his passing in September 2008. Before becoming ill Dorothy loved the outdoors, going fishing, camping and traveling, She and Charley enjoyed many trips together, including ocean cruises and vacations touring British Columbia. She is survived by two sons, Wayne and Jerry Benson of Winston, eight grandchildren, Rhonda VanDolah of Dillard Denna Holm of Sutherlin, Tammie and Cammie Benson of Corvallis, Renee' Hardgrave of Myrtle Creek, Sparky Benson of Alaska, Rubin Benson of Bend and Anna Hubble of Sparks, Nevada. Dorothy has 16 great-grandchildren, and five great-great, grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Bobby in 1968, who died of Muscular Dystrophy, as well as two brothers, Bob Crossman and Donald Crossman, and two sisters Jean Warren and Darlene Gymon. Dorothy was loved by all who loved her will be greatly missed.
