Donald Roy Zehr, of Roseburg Oregon, passed away peacefully on September, 16, 2025 at the age of 93. He was born to Milton and Hildreth Zehr, on November 30, 1931, in Albany, Oregon, where he lived until moving to Roseburg with his wife, Esther, in 1953. They were married on November 29, 1952, in Cherry Box, Missouri.

Together they raised 3 daughters in the Lookingglass area. In 1979, they moved to Winston, where they lived until October of 2021 when they moved to Wilbur, to be next door to their grandson, Barry Smith.

Don loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, camping, gardening. He loved sharing these activities with family members. He was a firearm enthusiast and never turned down the opportunity to shoot with a 94 Winchester, Mauser, Springfield or a good ole Ruger Blackhawk.

He also enjoyed carpentry and woodworking,  most recently finishing a rocking horse for his youngest great-grand-daughter, at that time, at the age of 92. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren still enjoy shooting the hand carved rubber band guns and cork guns that he made for them. He is known for his "obsession" with Whoopie Sticks, 100s of which he made and gave away!

Coming from a long line of Mennonite ancestors, over the years he was involved with several local churches in quiet, serving ways. His favorite Hymn was "This is my Father's World."  While listening to a piano arrangement of It is Well with My Soul, he took his last breaths. We entrust him to the care of Our Lord and Savior.

Beginning in 1953, Don worked on the Psychiatric Ward at the Roseburg Veteran's Hospital until he retired at age 55. He then began working for his brother-in-law, Wayne Alliman, installing awnings and skirtings for mobile homes. Over the years he also did many handyman type jobs on the side.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, three brothers, and a grandson. His two youngest sisters survive him. Other survivors are his wife of nearly 74 years, Esther, daughters Teresa (Forrest) Shetler, of Birkenfeld, Oregon, Diane Smith (Randall) of Winchester, Oregon, and Joan Zehr of Boise, Idaho, 4 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, and ten great-grand-children.

At Don's request a private graveside service will be held at the Lookingglass Cemetery, with his grandson Joshua Shetler officiating.
