John Stenbeck passed away while sleeping on August 22, 2014 at 6:30am with his wife and family present. John was born in La Salle, Illinois on October 8, 1934. John is survived by his wife, Loretta; seven children, Mary, Joan, John, Kathleen, Phillip, Andrew and Roberta; their spouses; nineteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Larry Garzanelli, Louise, Joseph, Mary and Angie. John joined the U.S. Navy where he spent 20 years serving his country, including service during the Korean Conflict and in the Vietnam War. Not too long after being in the Navy, John married the love of his life, his wife Loretta. John wore a tattoo on his left shoulder with his wife's name on it for over 60 years, while together they raised their seven children. After retiring from the Navy, John became a Deacon in the Catholic Church, a successful realtor, rancher, past district governor of Rotary in Oregon, a VA chaplain, chair of a school board, owned multiple businesses and was a board member of the Umpqua Basin Water Association. John spent his life serving God, his family, his country, and anybody who needed a hand. John's funeral service will be held on August 28, 2014 at St. Joseph's Church in Roseburg, Oregon. Viewing of the casket will begin at 9:00am with the funeral mass beginning at 10:00am. A reception will be held at St. Joseph's school after the service. John will be buried with full military honors.
