Obituary

David Stanton passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026, at the age of 74.

David was born in Hood River, Oregon, to Harold and Catherine Stanton and was raised in White Salmon, Washington. After graduating from Columbia High School, he began what would become a lifelong career with Roseburg Forest Products, where he worked until his retirement. Throughout his career, David held several positions, including handyman in the studmill, studmill supervisor, sawmill supervisor, and finally sawmill safety supervisor. He took pride in his work and the many friendships he made along the way.

On October 22, 1977, David met the love of his life, Cindy Pruitt. They married on June 30, 1979, and shared nearly 49 years together. Throughout their years together, they made countless memories, including many trips to Reno with Cindy's beloved Papa Curly. Those trips became treasured memories and were just one of the many ways David enjoyed spending time with family.

Family was always at the center of David's life. He was a devoted husband and loving father to Autumn and Tiah, the two daughters he and Cindy were blessed with during their marriage. He took great pride in his family and was a loving grandfather to Caiden, Taylor, Aurora, and Lyric, who were the light of his life.

David was also incredibly proud of his two great-grandchildren, Porter, 6, and Adalyn, 2. He treasured being their Papa. There weren't too many people Adalyn loved more than her Papa. She would stand outside his bedroom door and knock until he came out. It was a simple little thing, but one that showed just how special their bond was.

When Autumn and Tiah were growing up, David was deeply involved in their lives. He coached their baseball, basketball, and soccer teams and served for two years as president of Douglas Rec. He wasn't someone who simply watched from the sidelines. He loved being involved, encouraging the kids, and giving his time to something that meant so much to his family.

David loved taking his family on vacations and creating memories that would last a lifetime. Over the years, they enjoyed trips to Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Reno, Mexico, Palm Springs, and San Francisco, where they visited the Golden Gate Bridge. Whether it was a big family vacation or a simple getaway, David enjoyed spending time together, having fun, and making sure his family had experiences they would always remember.

David and Cindy loved taking their daughters, Autumn and Tiah, on long drives through the mountains when the girls were young. Along the way, they would stop to pick wildflowers, and when they reached the top, they would enjoy a picnic lunch together. Those simple outings became treasured family memories. David loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He went on many hunting and fishing trips with his grandfather-in-law, Ernest Pruitt, and his father-in-law, Rodney "Rod" Pruitt. Over the years, he also enjoyed several out-of-state hunting trips and made many memories along the way. Some of his favorite times were spent standing on the riverbank fishing with his brothers-in-law, Rick and Eddy. Whether the fish were biting or not, there was always good company, plenty of conversation, and tons of laughter.

David was the life of the party and loved nothing more than pulling someone's leg. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could make up a joke on the spot. Some of those jokes were actually pretty funny, but most of them weren't! Of course, that never stopped him from laughing at his own jokes or coming up with another one. His playful personality and ability to make people laugh were just part of what made David so special.

One of David's greatest qualities was that he was always there for the people he loved. It didn't matter what time of the day or night it was. If someone needed him, he was there. Whether it was lending a helping hand, offering advice, or simply showing up when someone needed him most, David could always be counted on. He was the kind of man who showed his love through his actions, never expecting anything in return.

David also shared a very special relationship with his mother-in-law, Mitzi Sulffridge, who held a special place in his heart.

David is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Stanton; his daughters, Autumn and Tiah; his four grandchildren, Caiden, Taylor, Aurora, and Lyric; and his two great-grandchildren, Porter and Adalyn. He also had two daughters from a previous marriage, Stephanie and Misty. He is also survived by his mother, Catherine Stanton; his siblings, Julia Stanton, Harold (Christina) Stanton, Wanita (Dan) Gordan, Michael (Katrina) Stanton, Lorraine (John) Chaney, and Melinda Clements; his mother-in-law, Mitzi Sulffridge; and his brothers-in-law, Rick (Brenda) Pruitt and Eddy (Kim) Pruitt, his nieces Candice (Andrew) Renyer, Cambrea (Kelly) Dwight, Kourtni (Brandon) Faber and Alicia Pruitt.

David was preceded in death by his father, Harold Stanton; his father-in-law, Rodney Pruitt; his grandparents-in-law, Ernest and Irene Pruitt; and his stepfather-in-law, Ervin Sulffridge.

Above all else, David was a family man. He loved deeply, laughed often, and was always there when someone needed him. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, countless stories, and a family who will forever be grateful for the love, laughter, and years they shared with him.

David will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
