Professor Dale M. Bryson was born on March 23, 1940, and passed away into the loving arms of the Lord in Eugene, Oregon, on August 29, 2025.  Dale was born in Sanitarium, California, to his parents, Elmer and Merle Bryson, and was a brother to George, Elizabeth, James, Timothy, and John.

Dale graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from La Sierra College in 1964. He began work with the Navy at that skill level at China Lake, Naval Weapons Base in the Mohave Desert of California.  He eventually was transferred to San Diego, where he worked for the Navy, reaching the status of GS-13.

In 1970, he pursued further education, completing a Master's in Computer Science at the University of Missouri-Rolla. With this accomplishment, he returned to San Diego, but his heart led him to Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, where he was welcomed in 1971. For over forty years, Dale shared his love for Mathematics and Computer Science with countless students and played a vital role as an Academic Dean, touching the lives of many with his knowledge and unwavering support.

Dale married his sweetheart, Arlene Pesh, in 1960, and they had two children, D. Lynn and Robyn. During their time in Roseburg, Dale dedicated himself to the Seventh-day Adventist Pathfinder Club, where he became a guiding light for many young lives. He took on various roles, including Counselor, Deputy Director, Director, and Conference Coordinator, eventually earning the title of Master Guide, all while inspiring children to grow and thrive.

In addition to his work with the Pathfinder Club, Dale made significant contributions to the local community. He played a pivotal role at Roseburg Lumber, where he helped develop innovative robotic solutions for the lumber mill, showcasing his commitment to progress and education. His passion for learning extended to Umpqua Community College, where he taught classes on robotics and helped establish the Toyota Program, empowering many students with essential skills in motor mechanics.

In 1989, Dale completed his PhD in the development of Computer Literacy for Nursing Schools across America from the University of Oregon. Dale visited over thirty nursing schools across the United States to better understand the need for patient charts to complete his doctoral thesis.

Dale served as the treasurer of the Roseburg Seventh-day Adventist Church for over 30 years and worked with the Oregon Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in developing computer finance programming for churches throughout Oregon. He also served on various administrative committees for the denomination.

Known for his kind and caring nature, Dale also had an adventurous spirit, finding joy in travel and the simple pleasure of sweet treats. Alongside Arlene, he created cherished memories on cross-country road trips and adventures to Europe, Hawaii, and many other beautiful destinations.

Dale will be greatly missed in the community and by church members across Oregon and the Northwest. He is survived by his children, D. Lynn Bryson and his wife Debra, Robyn Mitchell and her husband Joey, and their five beloved grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Ryan, Emily, and Meleah.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the Roseburg Seventh-day Adventist Church at 11:30 AM.
