Obituary

Colleen Bernadette Smith, of Tigard, Oregon passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday, January 09, 2017. She was 57 years old, and had been battling Glioblastoma for 13 months. Colleen was born February 3, 1959 in Portland to Patricia and Claude Smith. She grew up in Tigard, Oregon with her 5 sisters and 1 brother. She attended school at St. Anthony's, Twality Junior High, and Tigard High from which she graduated in 1977. After high school, she attended Southern Oregon State College. She met Kevin Holmstrom when she was 19 years old and they married on August 21, 1982. They had 3 children together and 3 grandchildren. After having her second daughter, Colleen decided to pursue accounting. From there she went into Tax Preparation. She worked for Napier & Co in Tigard for many years.

As a child, Colleen delighted in playing outside in the family's large yard and caring for her hamsters and the family's cats. Colleen loved to play the piano having learned to play in grade school and continuing to play into adulthood. She was also an avid swimmer, from learning to swim in the family's backyard pool, to earning 4 varsity letters on the high school swim team, swimming on the SOSC team, and later, competing on Tigard's Masters team. Colleen's love of fitness didn't end with swimming. She enjoyed competing in triathlons, as well as going to the gym and lifting weights. She loved to read and could often be found cuddled on the couch at the exciting conclusion of her newest book. Hawaii was one of Colleen's favorite places to travel and she was so happy to be able to go there this past year with her friends and family. Colleen's children and grandchildren were very important to her. She loved playing with them and attending all of their sporting events. Colleen was a great cook and a passionate gardener; in the spring and summer months you could find her outdoors planting many fruits, vegetables, and flowers. She was always busy with small get-togethers, Bunco parties, beach trips, and camping with her friends and family. In addition to being an athlete, adventurer, a reader, loving wife, and mother, Colleen will forever be remembered for her incredible wit and sense of humor.

Colleen is survived by her husband, Kevin Holmstrom; daughter Krystal and her husband Dave, and grandchildren, Rylie and Riggs; daughter Keri; daughter Kelly, and granddaughter Paige. She also leaves her father Claude Smith; her brother Pat Smith; her sisters Barbara Smith, Paula Vokoun, Nancy Scott, Lillian Matthews, and Julianne Taylor; as well as aunt Florence, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
