Cassandra (Sandy) Harter

On October 17th, 1951, a precious baby girl was born to Warren Dale and Sophie Mae Harter in Cassville, Missouri named Cassandra.

When Sandy was 3 years old, her family relocated to Reedsport, Oregon. After some time had passed, the family eventually relocated to a home in Florence, Oregon that her father Dale had built. Sandy attended high school in Florence and graduated as a Siuslaw Viking in 1970.

It was not long after graduation that she began a new venture with “Christians in Action”. After the required training and studying, Sandy was granted the title of Missionary. The next 15 years or so were dedicated to Christ, helping people in Honduras and Guatemala. She finished that portion of her missionary career in California.

In 1988 Sandy re-joined family in Roseburg, Oregon. She started a new job venture with a company called “Landscape Industries”. She began working there as a secretary and finished her 30+ year run as office manager. Rick and Jenny Quaas were the owners and were really close friends with Sandy.

Sandy also had a passion for numbers and birds. She would show up behind the art center off Harvard Avenue, in late summer and early fall to count swifts that would collect inside of a chimney. She and a select few counters known as the “Swift Sisters” would count birds and click how many went in that chimney. They sometimes got some pretty high numbers.

Another passion of Sandy’s was music. She was a member of “The Old Time Fiddlers”. She shared her rhythm guitar playing skills as well as being a membership coordinator and newsletter arranger. Her time with The Old Time Fiddlers was about 10 years.

Sandy always loved family gatherings and holiday get-togethers. She would show up with a guitar, yummy plates of food, and time for many games. She was always a huge part of our family and will be truly missed.

Sandy… You left us way too soon, but we know where you landed, please save us a spot and we will look forward to seeing you again!

Her brother – Glen Harter and his wife Barbara

Her niece – Terry Thomas and her husband Steve

Her niece – Susan Hand and her husband John

And many great nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends!
