H. Carolyn York passed away on January 6, 2026 in Roseburg, Oregon, with her family at her side. Carolyn was born October 22, 1930 in Rosebud, Texas to Alfred N. Green and Wilhemina (Anna) Schuster Green. She spent her growing up years in Texas, California and Oregon. She graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1950 while living with foster parents Glen and Berneice Lundy, who became her family.

Carolyn spent her first year of college at Southern Oregon College, where she first began to date John Marvin York (son of John H. and Lottie York). When the Lundys moved to California in 1951, Carolyn spent a year at Pepperdine College on a joint scholarship with her foster sister Mary. She married John in the summer of 1952. She would later return to college to work toward her teaching certificate, first at Boise Junior College where she completed her Associate's degree; then extension courses through the University of Oregon while living in Roseburg. She eventually would complete her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education.

In July 1953, John began his ministry career at the Roseburg Church of Christ, located by the Oak Street Bridge. For the next forty years, John ministered to congregations in Oregon, Idaho, and California. The York family (John, Carolyn, Johnny and Jeannie) left Roseburg in 1956 for ministry opportunities in Medford, Oregon and Boise, Idaho. Carolyn received her teaching certificate in Idaho before the family's return to Roseburg in 1960. From 1960-70 she taught at Green Elementary School and Hucrest Elementary. When John's career took them to Eugene, she taught in the Junction City School system for four years. After being out of the classroom for four years while the Yorks were living in California, Carolyn returned to teaching in Roseburg when they moved back in 1978. She taught at Winchester Elementary until her retirement in 1994. She continued to substitute teach an additional ten years. Throughout her teaching career, she remained the consummate "preacher's wife", actively involved in church activities and support of John's ministry. After John died in 2017, Carolyn moved to Linus Oakes Retirement Village in 2018 where she enjoyed great friendships and was actively involved in the senior living activities of the community.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Andrew; husband John M.; biological parents Alfred Green and Anna Green; biological siblings Sydney and Judy; foster parents Glen and Berneice Lundy and siblings Jim Lundy and Clell Lundy and Clell's wife Dorothy and brother-in-law Bill; John M.'s parents John H. and Lottie York; John's brothers Fred and Jim and sisters-in-law Norma and Geri.

Survivors include foster sister Mary and sister-in-law Judy; son John O. and wife Anne; daughter Jean Bates and husband David; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are by Taylor's Family Mortuary. A memorial service will be held at the Garden Valley Church of Christ, January 31, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Family internment services will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Oakland, Oregon at 1:00 PM.
