Carol May Patrick Pace passed away March 23, 2021, in Roseburg, Oregon, at age 84. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Robert L. Pace (Bob). She was born in Jerome, Idaho, on March 24, 1937, the second of 3 children to James Clifford and Thelma Leola Giles Patrick. During WW II, the family lived in Richmond, California, while her father served as welding foreman building ships for the conflict. Her family moved to Summerville in the Grande Ronde Valley in Eastern Oregon in the spring of 1946. Her father began farming grass seed, and Carol always said she thought they grew rocks because one of her chores in the fields was clearing the rocks.

She graduated from tiny Imbler High School in 1955 and worked her way through Eastern Oregon State Teachers College as a waitress, and graduated in 1959. After college, she took a fourth-grade teaching position at Riverside School in Roseburg, Oregon. A Coast Guard sailor came to Roseburg to visit his mother, and he fell in love at first sight. However, Carol took some convincing. Bob and Carol married on June 28, 1960, in the Manti Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They spent the next year traveling around with the United States Coast Guard from Brownsville, TX, around the Gulf, and up the Eastern Seaboard. Over their 61 years together, they lived in fourteen states and thirty-three towns and cities.

Carol was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Serving others and her community was an important part of her life. She served in many leadership capacities in the children's Primary organization, Young Women and Relief Society. Carol and Bob served as missionaries in the Tacoma Washington Mission from September 2007 to March 2009 as Church Education Missionaries serving young single adults. She was a wonderful mentor and teacher in stakes, wards, and branches in Arizona, Oregon, Kansas, Montana, California, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

Being a mother to her four children was a priority, and each of her children knew that Mom was their biggest cheerleader and supporter. Additionally, she was like a mom to many others that she lovingly counseled and helped, known as "Mom Pace." She became quite the outdoorswoman, snorkeling in the Florida clear water springs, camping, fishing, and backpacking with her family in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, California Coastal Range, and Smokey Mountains. During their time in middle Tennessee, she would explore places along the Cumberland Plateau, including caves.

The last 21 years of her life were challenging physically. However, she did it with grace and humbleness. Being an example of "You can do hard things!"

She is survived by many that were loved by her especially her loving husband of 61 years, Robert L. Pace. Daughters Cheryl Pace Holmes (husband Stephen) of Roseville, CA and Joy Pace Atkins of Roseburg, OR. Son Ivan Pace of Roseburg. Grandchildren Emily Holmes Barton (husband William) of Manassa, CO, Elizabeth Holmes Dillon(husband Sean) of Citrus Heights, CA, Kylie Holmes Brittner (husband Cole) of Lindon, UT, Brady Holmes of Roseville, CA, Christian Atkins of Sacramento, CA, Kirstin Atkins of Orangevale, CA, and Bryan Atkins of Folsom, CA. Plus three great-grandchildren, Tanner, June, and Cora Barton. Additionally, her nieces and nephews, whom she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents James Clifford Patrick and Thelma Leola Giles Patrick, son Mark Patrick Pace, brother Melvin Patrick, and sister Charlotte Patrick Herrmann.

The viewing will be on April 2 from 10:00 - 10:45 AM, with the service beginning at 11:00 AM. Both the viewing and service will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2001 W. Bertha Avenue, Roseburg, Oregon.  The internment is Monday, April 5, at the National Cemetary in Roseburg.
