Ardis Marion Lewis, age 82, of Winston, Oregon passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Ardis was born in Eugene, Oregon on May 21, 1929 to Uriel and Alice Hooley. She graduated from Triangle High school in Blachly, Oregon in 1946. She was married in 1950 to Earl "Speed" Lewis. They eventually relocated to Washington State where they lived for many years in the Yakima Valley. Ardis was an active member of Summitview Baptist Church in Yakima, and later First Baptist Church of Union Gap. After moving to Winston in 2002 Ardis joined Vine Street Baptist Church in Roseburg. She enjoyed the outdoors, hiking--especially with her son, vegetable gardening, crafts, writing, reading, flowers, plants and birds. She was an excellent seamstress and cook. Ardis also had an amazing wit and sense of humor, as well as a great smile and a permanent twinkle in her eyes. Ardis loved her many close friends, and her family very much. But her first love was Jesus Christ. She loved studying the Word of God, and enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years. Ardis is survived by a sister and brother: Phyllis Bolton and Steve Hooley, both of Riddle, Oregon. She is also survived by 2 daughters and a son: Jane Lewis, husband Jim Cupples, of Salem, Oregon; Jeanie Holleman, husband Mike, of Winston, Oregon; and Tim Lewis of Yakima, Washington. She is also survived by her four granddaughters, their spouses, and nine great-grandchildren: Amy and Bill Cannaday, sons Jack and Sam, of Winston; Kristi and Jason Helbig, children Ava and Luke, of Troutdale, Oregon; Holly and Brad Creager, children Audrey, Lydia, Dylan, Ezra and Liv, of Albany, Oregon; and Alisha Holleman of Winston. Also surviving her are many nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to her as "Aunt Ardy". Ardis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister: Elizabeth Winn of Roseburg, Oregon. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 21st at Vine Street Baptist Church in Roseburg, Oregon. Arrangements by Taylor's Family Mortuary. An additional service will be held in Union Gap, Washington at First Baptist Church of Union Gap on Wednesday, April 25th at 11 a.m. Kevin Quantrell will be officiating.
