Andrea Marie Pantages Hodge, aged 85, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, in Roseburg, Oregon. Born in Plainfield, NJ, she was a devoted mother to Charles Hodge of Charlotte, NC and Leslie Hodge Bryant of Roseburg, OR, and a cherished sister to Valerie Mastrianni of Dallas, TX. Andrea was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Charlie Hodge and her brother, Anthony Mastrianni.

Andrea Marie Pantages was born on December 20, 1939 in Plainfield , NJ, daughter of Annie and William Pantages.  While her ancestry is Czech and Greek she described herself as Italian, as it was her stepfather Dominick Mastrianni who had the greatest influence during her youth.   Andrea was a loving and supportive big sister to younger siblings Anthony and Valerie. They grew up together in Fanwood surrounded by extended family - Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.   Andrea attended Scotch Plains Fanwood High School where she first met her high-school sweetheart, Charlie Hodge.   When she graduated in 1957, Charlie went off to join the Army, while Andrea pursued her love of singing in her band, The Moonglows.

Andrea's first job after high school was at Bell Laboratories where she performed clerical & office duties in support of the facility's important research into transistor technology.  Andrea was still employed at Bell Labs when Charlie returned from his enlistment.  They re-connected immediately, and went on to marry Sept. 05, 1964.

The newlyweds decided to move to the country to start their new life.   Andrea traded her cashmere for coveralls and became a dairy farmer in upstate NY.   In 1969 their first child, Charles, was born, and Charlie's mother Audrey Hodge came to live with the young family.   Three years later the family grew again when their daughter Leslie was born.   Andrea was a devoted and loving mother and also a dedicated caretaker to the various animals who inhabited the farm.  But economic pressures forced the family to move away from the farm and relocate to the mountains of Asheville, NC in 1979.

In Asheville, Andrea and Charlie began yet another new life.   Here, Charlie went into construction while Andrea began her next career as a banker.  At Asheville Savings Bank Andrea quickly advanced from the mortgage dept. to supervise the bank's newest technology rollout - the Automatic Teller Machine - and later became Branch Manager.  Andrea shared with Charlie a passion for exploring the mountain roads around Asheville on their Harley Davidson motorcycle.   Andrea could often be seen riding in the sidecar, knitting a sweater with her helmet and goggles in the wind, smiling from ear to ear.

Even more than the mountains, Andrea always loved the ocean.  So, when Charlie passed away in 2003, Andrea relocated to Bluffton SC for her retirement years.   As a resident of Sun City Hilton Head she was outgoing and active in many community organizations and a loving and loyal friend to Paul, Sue and Kathy.

In 2017, at the age of 78 Andrea relocated again, this time literally from coast-to-coast.   Leaving the beaches of Buffton behind, she moved to Roseburg, OR to be near Leslie.  As a resident at Linus Oaks Village, Andrea continued to enjoy her independence. She was an active and outgoing friend, an avid reader, speedy knitter, and enjoyed regular outings to the nearby Wildlife Safari.   She so enjoyed these visits that the family requests donations in-lieu-of flowers to help support the Safari (see link above).   We very much appreciate your generosity and thank you for helping to keep the doors open for the future.

Andrea Marie Pantages Mastrianni Hodge was a strong, confident, cheerful, positive, loving and absolutely fearless  woman, mother, wife and sister.   She faced every new challenge in life head on.  She stepped forward confidently each time the next chapter arrived.   Her resilient spirit, her unwavering optimism, her dedication, her support and her love will never fade.
