Obituary

Alta M. Hayes, 87, passed away May 1, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Roseburg ,surrounded by her family, of an abdominal aneurysm. She was born November 19, 1923 in Broseley, Missouri to George W and Laura (Smith) Ray. She was married and moved to Oregon after graduating from Broseley High School. She lived most of her life in Coos County loving the beautiful scenery and beaches. She was well known for her kindness, generosity and her joyful and bright sprit. She managed to blend two families that hardly noticed being blended. Everyone that met her loved her. She is survived by her husband, Fred Hayes; sister Leota Bratcher and a brother, Lloyd Ray. She is survived by her children, Fayetta Davis, Lucritia Haley, Richard Clark and Karen Hess. As well as her step children Teresa Herron, Virgil Hayes, Eileene Turpin, Janice Whetstone and Marcia Ellis. Alta also leaves ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, ten brothers and sister, husbands Harlan Harrelson and Wesley Clark and a daughter Roxie Metzler. A private family memorial will be held. The family prefers contributions to the Powers Community Scholarship Fund, PO Box 479, Powers, Oregon 97466.
