Alma L. Justis of Winston, Oregon, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the age of 82. She was born January 4, 1928 in Dierks, Arkansas, daughter of Thomas and Bessie Young. She moved with her family at an early age to Oregon and graduated from high school in Klamath Falls. She married William (Bill) Patrick, who preceded her in death in 1976. She later was united in marriage to Newton (Newt) Justis in 1977, and the two made their home in Winston. Alma worked at the Winston-Dillard School District as a library aid and assistant, retiring in 1986. Newt passed away in 1989. Alma was an avid reader. Even after her eyes became too weak to read, she enjoyed 'talking books for the blind". She also enjoyed rides in the countryside, gardening and volunteering at the Winston Visitors Center, but mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her brother, Glen Young and his wife Jean of Central Point, Oregon; Preceding her in death is a daughter, Jeannie (Patrick) Peck and son, Jerry Justis, and brother, Bill Young. Surviving children include, Ron Justis and his companion Christine Ames of Winston; Randy Justis and his wife Cheryl of Roseburg; Kathy Justis and her husband Richard Hiney of Roseburg and Bruce Justis and his wife Connie of Winston. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Jon Justis; Ron and Jeff Crose; Ben Hiney; Cecily Mosby; Erica Gustavson; Juliet Williams; Bruce Justis Jr.; Michelle, Hope and Brandie Justis and 11 great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews include, Julie Schaefer; Donny Young; Sue Edger; and Mike Young. Graveside services will be held at Roseburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 17th. A reception will follow at the home of Kathy Justis, located at 442 Monta Vista Ln, Roseburg (Melrose area). Friends may pay their respects at Taylor's Family Chapel in Winston, on Wednesday, June 16, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Memorial donations can be made to the Oregon Talking Books for the Blind, through the Oregon State Library System.
