Alice C. Kruckenberg 6/25/1916 - 1/25/2010 Alice was born June 25, 1916, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Oscar and Ruth Lee. The family moved to Cambridge, Wisconsin, in 1918, where they operated the pond Lily farm. Alice attended Fort Atkinson High School and worked at Nester Candy Factory and the Jefferson Shoe Factory. In 1942, she married Kenneth Kruckenberg and in 1952 they moved west to Myrtle Creek, Oregon. There they made their life operating a small ranch. Alice and Kenne spent many years traveling around the U.S. and Canada where they visited family and friends. They were married 54 years at the time of Kenne's death, after which Alice moved to Roseburg, Oregon. Alice was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Vonne Stevens, and brother,Orrin Lee. She is survived by sisters, Marian Cortez and Virginia Unger of Syracuse, New York; sister-in-law, Lillian Lee of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and 45 nieces and nephews. While Alice and Kenne did not have children of their own, they were 'adopted' by nieces, Karen Cowe and Bonne Martin after their mother's death in 1985. Her extended family includes, Bettie Ehrensing; Rhonda Day; Pat Linville; Wanda Liles; Louise Trusheim and many others who fell in love with her kind and gentle spirit. Alice was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and survived many years longer than expected. She was involved with the Cancer Society of Roseburg where she attended many cancer survivor outings and touched and inspired many with her tremendous courage and her joy for life. Her warmth and generosity was a symbol of her faith. Alice was confirmed in 1929 in East Koshkonong Lutheran Church and after moving to Oregon joined Faith Lutheran Church in Roseburg. Alice gave up her fight and found peace on Monday, January 25, 2010. She will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Taylor's Family Mortuary in Winston, Oregon.
